Last soccer game

My daughter played her last High School soccer game today. They played their hearts out, and it was an enjoyable game to watch, although they lost.

I have coached soccer for several years in our local AYSO (American Youth Soccer Organization). Around here, AYSO plays in the summer at a much less formal and competitive level. But this year my daughter said she didn't want to sign up for summer soccer, since she will be rather busy with other projects. So perhaps that is the end of my soccer coaching career.

I'll miss it. It's great fun to watch kids play, and to help them play well.

I took off work early to see today's game, and I'm glad I did. They had a small ceremony for graduating seniors. My wife and I stood by my daughter while they awarded a flower and card to her and said nice things about her.

It was a touching moment. I'm very proud of her. I will miss her when she is off at college.

Rhyme of the day:

It's nice to get a flower and a card.
But saying goodbye is always hard.
