The Calendar Marches On

Whew.  A new month.  Let's hope I do a better job of keeping my personal schedule in my head this month!  I did remember that I needed to buy a new monthly train pass today.

I ride the Rock Island line, which is a mighty good line.  You may remember that the old song on the subject says "Get your ticket at the station on the Rock Island line."  Well, that's truer than ever.  If you buy your ticket on the train, they tend to hit you with a 2 dollar surcharge!

Rhyme of the Day:

I'm glad I remembered
That it was November.

And I'm glad October's
Over.

Did you ever notice that the names for months 9, 10, 11, 12 are based on the Latin words for 7, 8, 9, 10?

Septem is Latin for 7,  Octo is 8, Novem is 9, Decem is 10.  What is that about?  The Jesuits made me learn Latin, promising it would help me as an adult, but it just helps me get mixed up about what month it is!

Well, one explanation I've heard  is that on the old Roman calendar, March was the first month.  Is that why we say Time "Marches" On?  I don't think so.
