Reagan's letters

I was watching a Discovery Channel show about Reagan's letters. One of the fascinating revelations is what a good writer he was. During his administration, cynics often described him as an actor, an "amiable dunce," mouthing ghostwriters' lines. But there are reams of letters in his own hand, showing that he was quite capable of choosing words wisely.

Apparently he was content to let his adversaries underestimate his intelligence. This is an insidious strategy known as MODESTY.

Rhyme of the day:

Most politicians boast.
Modesty's
An oddity.

Here's an article about the letters, featuring Martin Anderson, an editor of the letters. Anderson had some involvement in Objectivism in the early days, and had an accomplished career as a presidential advisor.
