Let there be light, revised

We had some work done in our kitchen a while back... and ever since them we have trouble turning on the lights. The new switches are - you guessed it - computerized, at least in the sense of being based on a microchip - I think.

Today Marsha discovered that to turn ON the lights you could double-click the big flat part of the switch. That's right, double-click it like you do with a mouse. It's simple enough, but how was I supposed to know that? I know 2 competent people who read the instructions for the light switch, and they somehow didn't get that.

Think about it, instructions for a light switch. It's a scary thought. Especially since people hate to read instructions.

Now, I think I will ask to read the manual. Just for the aggravation of it all. Wait. Marsha gave them to a local handyman to look at, which is probably a good idea. But I think I found them on the internet, so maybe I can figure it out after all.

There's an old movie, Beetlejuice, quite bizarre and funny, directed by Tim Burton. In it, Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin are ghosts who are trying to read a manual about how to get on with the afterlife. At first, they just keep staring at it. It makes no sense to them. It's funny because we've all had manuals like that.

Rhyme of the day:

Why is it that most "Instructions"
Defy my powers of deduction?
