The Universe and Me

In a comment thread that started a few days ago, dwagoner (Douglas Wagoner) made the case that the Benevolent Universe Premise is perhaps misnamed or subtly misconceived. Well, lest I paraphrase him incorrectly, you can read his reflections here:

He mentions that we evolved to live in this Universe. So we're well-suited to it in an adaptive way.

Of course, outside of this planet, most of the rest of the universe appears less than hospitable, what with all that vacuum and entropy out there. But this little corner's not bad. And we've finally gotten to the point where we know how to go for a jaunt outside the atmosphere.

Rhyme of the day:

For better or worse,
This is my lot:
I've only got
One universe.
