I did a 10 mile race today, an annual Labor Day race that draws some serious talent. A bunch of world class Kenyan distance runners beat me. They were led by Julius Kiptoo, who did the distance in 48 minutes flat.
I took a bit longer.
I didn't actually see Mr. Kiptoo. I could have hung about for the awards, where I would have gotten a glimpse of him. But I took off before the ceremony.
One thing I liked about the race was that I got a medal at the end - just for finishing! It's silly, I know, but I have a big collection of medals like that, hanging on a wall in my basement. I have a very small collection of medals that I won by placing in my age group.
Rhyme of the day:
Name a famous runner
And there's a chance I'll say:
I know him - I raced that guy -
But he was faster that day.
